About

The Hunger But Mainly Death Games follows Bratniss Everclean, who just might be the only sane person in Slum 12, the garbage dump of the evil nation of Pandumb. But that doesn’t keep her from shortsightedly volunteering for a tournament that, as its name suggests, is a little more about death than it is about food.

However, Bratniss quickly learns that some fates are worse than death…like having to date her fellow competitor (and lifelong stalker) Pita Malarkey. Okay, okay, it’s not worse than DEATH, but it’s still pretty annoying.

Written by two veteran parody authors (hiding behind the name of their main character for fear of reprisals from readers angry for all the laughter-pee they’ve been subjected to), The Hunger But Mainly Death Games is the perfect gift for anyone who’s going through Hunger Games withdrawal and is ready for a twisted take on their favorite story and characters. It’s also great for the unfortunate teens trapped in real Hunger Games, who could benefit from some levity, assuming there are places to buy books in the arena.

The Hunger But Mainly Death Games is available in paperback for $7.63, as an ebook for $0.99. It is available for free beneath the rubble of Borders everywhere.

May the odds let there be toilet paper in the arena.

  6. Dayyyyummm! I read the first chapter, the first 17 pages, and I think that this parody is quite funny. This thing is going to be fucking BEAST!

I also like it how Bratniss’s hunting companion is a guy named Greta, and how creepy and brooding he is. He is like Edward Cullen without the vampirism (or happy immortal family), and more literally than you might think, because he hunts down furry animals just like Edward.

I also like some of the more surreal elements, with the extra emphasis of freaky radioactive poisoning on the environment and their freaky nuclear steampunk weapons(that probably only sometimes work). Turns out they are resourceful/able to put together some scary gadgets even on their scavenging lifestyles, even if these type of weapons are rare and pale in comparison to what the Big Nice Capitol has.
